Rad Reading-November

This month I read the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio. This book is about a boy named August who is born with a disability where his appearance is different than others. Most of August’s life he was homeschooled but for fifth grade he went to a public school. Public school caused him to get bullied for what he looked like. Boys would make fun of him when all he wanted was to be treated like an ordinary person.

What I loved about the book was that all August wanted to be was a ordinary kid. He teaches kids to not be afraid of what they look like and that everyone is beautiful the way they are. When kids bully August he ignores them and finds his real friends. This book shows acceptance for who people are and that’s why I love it.

My favorite character in the book is August. I liked August because he is a kind person and cares about other people other than him. He is also brave and this trait helps him overcome his problems in life and school despite his disability. A quote to explain how August is brave is this “I kind of felt everyone’s eyes burning onto my back for the few seconds I stood in the front of the class, and everybody looked down when I walked back to my desk.” This quote spoke to me and I feel like it shows how Auggie is brave to walk up there with confidence even though he might be slightly embarrassed.

My favorite quote from the book Wonder is “There’s no rule book that tells you how to act in every given situation in life, you know? So what I always say is that it’s always better to err on the side of kindness. That’s the secret. If you don’t know what to do, just be kind. You can’t go wrong.” I like this quote because It’s saying that when you are kind you can’t do anything wrong or nothing goes wrong when you are kind to others.

This book teacher people to be kind to others even when they are different than you. You never know what people are going through on the inside.

Three Things I’m Thankful For

I am thankful for many things in my life. One number one thing I am thankful for is my family. I have learned that life is short and that you have to make the best of things while they are still here. I can always count on my family to help me when I need it. My puppy is also a part of my family and I love her so much and she brings me so much joy. Whenever I am sad she will come in my room and lay on my lap. Secondly, I am thankful for my friends. My friends are so amazing and I can talk to them about anything and I know they will listen. My friends bring me joy and they can make me laugh for no absolute reason. The third thing I’m thankful for is food and water. Food and water keeps my alive and it keeps me healthy. Food and water is a main part in many peoples lives and it’s very important to be grateful for it. I am grateful for so many other things too! Family, Food and water, and friends are definitely my top three main things I’m grateful for. See you next Wednesday!

If I was Granted Three Wishes

If I was granted three wishes I would scream! My three dream wishes would be to go to a Taylor Swift concert, get a ton of money and finally for my last wish I want to own a private Island. I would like to go to a Taylor Swift concert because she is one of my favorite singers and I would love to see her live on tour. I would like to get a ton of money so I could help people in need and donate some to charity. For my final wish I want a private island so I can hang out with my friends and build a big house on it with all the money I got from my second wish. It would be fun to have events with family and friends on my island. It would definitely be an island with a beach in front. Thank you for reading my blog! See you next Wednesday!

Rad Reading-October

The book I read this month was When You Reach me by Rebecca Stead. The book is about a middle school girl named Miranda who keeps on getting strange notes from a mystery person. The notes say that they know who she is and that she knows who they are as well when she really doesn’t. Miranda walks home from school and always walks by a laughing man who lives on the corner of her street. The notes gives her signs that happen in the future and Miranda is convinced that whoever is giving her these notes has a way to tell the future. The laughing man always mumbles words like book, bag, pocket and shoe. Little did Miranda know there was a reason behind all of it.

Something I loved about the book was the ending and the suspense that it left me with. I felt really intrigued into the book and It was making me want to read more and more. The plot was very good and I would definitely recommend you read it if you like books with romance and suspense.

My favorite character through the whole book was Miranda. Miranda has a very sweet heart and cares for her friends and family. A quote to explain this trait is “I couldn’t let this happen to Marcus. He was barely regular to begin with. I thought of him shaking and crying on the curb after the accident, and how he tried to stop Sal from running in front of the truck, and how he’d been too clueless to realize Sal was running away from him in the first place.” This quote explains how Miranda cares about both of her friends and that she doesn’t want anything to happen to either of them.

My favorite quote from the book is “I don’t know. I just feel stuck, like I’m afraid to take any steps, in case they are the wrong ones.” I like this quote because I feel that it really means something to the person reading. It stood out to me because most people can relate to it, a lot of people are afraid to take risks or chances because they are scared they might make a mistake or do the wrong thing.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and I definitely encourage you to read it!
